The new owner of this striking modern house in Radlett were seeking to make some practical changes to the front and rear gardens of the property while respecting the strong design sensibilities embodied in the contemporary Architecture.
The rear garden required an improved seating /dining area adjacent to the house and privacy issues with a new neighbouring development required sensitive screening. Existing planting including pleached hornbeams along the rear, were maintained with the aspect improved by a feature wall, while fast growing bamboos were used to provide dense, evergreen screening.
Multi stemmed Parrotia Persica Trees have been carefully placed to create perfectly scaled specimens adding interest, with a lush lawn and topiary borders. The new porcelain patio flows seamlessly from the house to the garden creating an elegant space to relax and entertain in the newly secluded garden space.
At the front of the property, the existing driveway layout had a single means of access due to complications with a protected tree. We successfully navigated a planning application for a new in and out arrangement while creating a significantly more open, attractive entrance with a slatted gate design that mirrored details of the window slats on the house.
