A client purchased a Penthouse Apartment on the eighth floor of a new development in Lincoln’s Inn, Central London, instructing us with a simple brief, to create an Oasis in the Sky!
With triple aspect terraces and the regimented glass facades of the apartment, we sought to use planting to create privacy, while also maintaining key views over-looking the City of London skyline including St Paul’s Cathedral. We incorporated two main seating areas and a dining space, as well as creating smaller areas to sit peacefully and reflect upon the elevated landscape and city beyond.
We designed and commissioned custom made planters and used a special lightweight soil for a wide variety of specimens including small trees.
Challenging logistics involved orchestrating a mammoth 'lift' requiring a Central London Road closure, and a one-week window to position the planters, soil, specimens, and plants, arriving from various sources into the city. This required months of planning to achieve a relatively stress-free build with the lift completed slightly ahead of schedule.
